THE Court of Appeal today agreed to temporarily release Rosmah Mansor’s passport to her to enable her to travel to Singapore to visit her daughter, who is expected to give birth at the end of the month.

The panel of judges, consisting of Hadhariah Syed Ismail, Azman Abdullah and Azmi Ariffin, allowed Rosmah her passport after her lawyer Jagjit Singh, told the court that his client needed to be with her eldest daughter, Nooryana Najwa Najib Nooryana, who is due to deliver her third child.

“My client requested for her passport to enable her to go to Singapore from tomorrow until August 23, August 26-September  6 and September 9-October 31. The prosecution did not object to the application,” said the lawyer.

Nooryana Najwa is due to give birth on August 28.

Rosmah said she will return to Malaysia to attend the appeal hearing of her corruption case linked to a RM1.25 billion government contract to outfit Sarawak schools with solar equipment.

This was the fourth time Rosmah had applied for the temporary release of her passport to travel to Singapore to see her daughter.

Nooryana Najwa is married to Kazakh Daniyar Kessikbaye. The couple live in Singapore.

Last year, the High Court found Rosmah guilty of three corruption charges in connection with the solar energy project for rural schools.

Rosmah, 71, was sentenced to 10 years in jail on each of the three charges, which were to be served concurrently. She was also fined RM970 million, in default of 30 years in jail.

The High Court granted Rosmah a stay of the prison sentence and fine pending her appeal.  – Bernama, August 17z¸, 2023.
