PAKATAN Harapan’s (PH) election machinery for Sungai Kandis today lodged a police report over the allegedly dubious vote count for the seat in the state elections two days ago.

PH election machinery representative Shaari Abdul Malik said he made the report on behalf of candidate Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni at the Shah Alam police headquarters at 3.56pm today.

Zawawi said there are doubts about the counting process at polling centres in the constituency and that there is a discrepancy in the number of unreturned ballots.

Shah Alam police chief Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim when contacted confirmed the report was lodged and would be referred to the Election Commission.

Earlier, the PH-Barisan Nasional (BN) alliance was reportedly considering annulment petitions over several seats won by Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the Selangor polls on Saturday.

Selangor PH chairman Amirudin Shari said the seats were Sungai Kandis, Taman Medan, Gombak Setia and Dengkil, which were all narrow misses for PH.

The three-cornered clash in Sungai Kandis saw PN’s Wan Dzahanurin Ahmad emerging victorious with 28,926 votes over PH’s Zawawi (28,759 votes) and Muda’s Afriena Shaqira Sariff (1,341 votes). – Bernama, August 14, 2023.
