Airline says MH122 passengers to take next flight to KL

PASSENGERS of Malaysia Airlines flight MH122 from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur, which turned back mid-flight today due to a disruptive passenger, will be transferred to the next flight after obtaining clearance from authorities.

Malaysia Airlines in a statement issued at 5.55pm said the flight was carrying 199 passengers and a 12-member crew.

“The disruptive passenger has been detained by local (Australian) police. Other passengers and crew have completed disembarkation at 7pm. The aircraft will be thoroughly inspected by police.

“Malaysia Airlines wishes to thank the authorities for their immediate response, and to passengers for remaining calm and cooperative during the ordeal. The safety and comfort of our crew and passengers are of utmost importance to Malaysia Airlines,” it said.

The flag carrier in an earlier statement said the flight was carrying 194 passengers and five crewmembers.

Earlier, the flight returned to Sydney International Airport due to a disruption caused by a passenger. Citing safety concerns, the flight commander decided to return to Sydney, with the flight landing at 3.47pm Australian time.

Australian police in a statement said the 45-year-old passenger was arrested, and is expected to be charged later tonight. – Bernama, August 14, 2023.
