THE results of the state elections will serve to empower the federal unity government.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this will ensure the unity government will remain strong for the next five years.

Ahmad Zahid, who is the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, said the partners in the unity government respected the results of the elections in the six states, which saw them retain control of Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Penang.

“To all the people who fulfilled their responsibility by voting… nourishing the process of democracy in the country, you have our highest appreciation for your commitment and concern to determine a brighter future for the states and country,” he said in a statement today.

The Umno president congratulated the successful candidates and hoped they would repay the trust given to them.

“For those who did not succeed, keep going and don’t ever stop fighting for the people’s aspirations when faced with challenges,” he said.

He thanked all party members, the party machinery and volunteers who had worked hard on the Bn campaigm.

Earlier, Zahid was with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the Pakatan Harapan-BN war room in the World Trade Centre KL, where they awaited the official election results. – Bernama, August 13, 2023.
