PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) has dealt a major blow to Pakatan Harapan (PH)-Barisan Nasional (BN) in Selangor with its success of winning 22 out of 56 seats in the state elections, its chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said.

He said this success meant that PN has successfully denied the PH-BN government a two-thirds majority in Selangor, which was previously considered its stronghold.

“I believe that if the voter turnout were much higher, PN would have succeeded in seizing the state,” he said at Concorde Hotel in Shah Alam tonight.

“PN has also made major inroads in the Selangor by winning 22 seats, compared to only five previously held by PN.

“The 22 are Malay-majority seats, which proves that PN has great support of Malay voters in Selangor.”

Muhyiddin also congratulated the 146 out of 245 PN candidates who won in the six state elections.

“This is an encouraging achievement for PN. This means PN has won 60% of the contested seats,” he said.

“This success in gaining the support of Malay voters indicates that PN is the main vehicle for Malay politics today.

“Umno has become irrelevant again by winning only 19 out of the 108 seats it contested. This means that Umno lost 82% of seats it contested.”

Muhyiddin said this proves the mass rejection of the Malays and non-Malays of the fragile political combination and false unity led by PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim and BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“Anwar and Zahid, who lead this coalition, must take responsibility by resigning as prime minister and deputy prime minister immediately,” he said. – August 12, 2023.
