Pakatan retains Penang

PAKATAN Harapan (PH) will continue to govern Penang after obtaining a majority of more than 50% in today’s state polls.

Election Commission chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh told a media conference today PH had won 21 out of the 40 state seats contested in Penang as of 10.34pm.

As of 4pm earlier, Penang had recorded a 67% voter turnout.

Caretaker Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow won the Padang Kota seat for the fourth consecutive time after obtaining a majority of 7,116 votes.

It was reported that Chow, who is also the Batu Kawan MP, would be named chief minister candidate if PH retains power in Penang.

In the 2018 general election, PH won 37 out of the 40 state seats to form the state government. – Bernama, August 12, 2023.
