CARETAKER Kelantan menteri besar Ahmad Yakob said his health and age are why he won’t helm the state again.
The Pasir Pekan candidate said he expressed his intention to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and several senior party leaders.
“I am not well. I have fallen twice and have a slipped disc as well as heart problems.
“I officially informed the party leaders early this year,” he told reporters after casting his vote at SMK Kampung Laut today.
The 73-year-old said his age was another factor in his decision.
He became menteri besar in 2013.
Earlier today, Hadi said, due to health issues, Ahmad will not be menteri besar if PAS/Perikatan Nasional retains the state.
Hadi denied talk the decision to replace Ahmad was a political manoeuvre to meet Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional’s challenge.
“Ahmad Yakob is stepping aside due to health issues. In the past, he pleaded for us to appoint someone else but we asked him to continue.
“Even in the middle of his term, he insisted on a replacement due to his poor health.
“He has sought medical treatment so many times, so this time, we gave in to his request,” he told reporters after casting his vote in Terengganu. – August 12, 2023.
