9.67 million Malaysians vote in 6 states today

ABOUT 9.67 million Malaysians are eligible to vote today in the six state elections.

The Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election is also held today.

Polling centres in Penang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu, and Kelantan open at 8am and close at 6pm.

On Tuesday, 72,554 members of the police and armed forces and their spouses voted early. Voter turnout in Kedah was 96.02%, Terengganu (95.91%), Selangor (95.87%), Penang (95.01%), Negri Sembilan (94.05%) and Kelantan (93.90%).

Early voting also took place the same day for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election, with a voter turnout of 1,286, or 95.47% 

Five hundred and seventy candidates are vying for 245 seats in the six state elections. Forty of the seats are  in Penang, 56 (Selangor), 36 (Negri Sembilan), 36 (Kedah), 32 (Terengganu) and 45 (Kelantan).

The 14-day election campaign period, which began on July 29, ended at 11.59pm last night.

The Meteorological Department predicted rain in parts of Penang, Negri Sembilan, and Selangor this morning. 

Many coastal areas of Kedah are also expected to experience the rainy weather. Cloudy skies are predicted for Terengganu, and sunny weather for Kelantan.. – Bernama, August 12, 2023.
