SELANGOR’S caretaker menteri besar Amirudin Shari said Monday will be a public holiday in the state if the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional coalition wins the elections tomorrow.

In a livestreamed telecast, Amirudin emphasised that the polls will determine the future of Selangor and its people.

“If we win the Selangor elections and form the state government, we will declare August 14, the next Monday, a public holiday in the state,” he said in a message to Selangor voters ahead of the polls.

“August 12 is an important date for every one of us. You will determine the future of this state for the next five years. Voters have a choice: to choose a government that is proven to be able to solve problems or a government that is there to cause uncertainty and trouble.”

Amirudin also announced that the Selangor government would implement five initiatives within 100 days in office.

The initiatives are RM1,000 childcare aid for 5,000 working women; assessment rate exemption for low-cost and village homes; book voucher for 1,000 university students; a raise in allowance for imam, bilal and siak; and RM1,000 cash incentives for farmers and fishermen.

Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Penang and Selangor will vote tomorrow.

Amirudin has said that the PH-BN pact could win at least 38 of Selangor’s 56 state seats.

Before the state assembly was dissolved, PH held 40 seats, BN (5), Bersatu (4), PBM (2) and PAS, Pejuang and Warisan held one each. One seat was held by an Independent. – August 11, 2023.
