IGP says over 1,500 reports of election offences filed

POLICE have received 1,524 reports related to the state elections, said Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain.

He said the highest number of reports was 629 in Selangor, followed by Terengganu (289), Kedah (249), Kelantan (213), Negri Sembilan (111) and Penang (33).

Razarudin said 103 investigation papers have been opened for 26 reports in Selangor, 23 in Kedah, 16 in Penang, 15 in Terengganu, 14 in Negri Sembilan, and nine in Kelantan.

“Four arrests have been made under Ops Cantas Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM). All those arrested are locals,” he told reporters during a press conference in Bukit Aman today.

He said two cases will be investigated under section 435 of the penal code while the other two will be investigated under sections 325 and 427 of the same code.

Razarudin said 13 investigation papers have been opened over slander and offensive statements made on social media.
