DATA released by the Election Commission (EC) showed 294 voters in the Pulai parliamentary constituency and 14 voters in the Simpang Jeram state constituency are over 100 years old.
The April 2023 supplementary electoral roll showed 41 voters in Pulai are exactly 100 years old, with the three oldest aged 115, while in Simpang Jeram, two of the voters are 109 years old.
Both constituencies will hold by-elections on September 9 after the death of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Salahuddin Ayub. Nomination day is August 26 while early voting is on September 5.
The latest EC update showed 166,653 eligible voters in Pulai and 40,379 in Simpang Jeram.
There are 165,700 regular voters in the Pulai parliamentary by-election, with 927 early voters and 26 absentee voters, whereas the Simpang Jeram by-election has 40,373 regular voters and six absentee voters.
EC data showed the largest group (35,074) of voters in Pulai are aged 21-29 (21.05% of electorate), 34,235 are aged 30-39, and 32,271 are aged 40-49.
Simpang Jeram’s largest group of voters is the 30-39 age category with 9,326 voters (23.1% of electorate), followed by the 20-29 age category (9,160 voters) and the 40-49 age category (7,113 voters).
Based on the same statistics, male voters slightly outnumber female voters in Pulai, with 83,724 voters compared to 82,929 female voters, whereas in Simpang Jeram, women outnumber men 20,626 to 19,753. – Bernama, August 9, 2023.
