72,554 early voters fulfil duty

A TOTAL of 72,554 members of the military and police force and their spouses have fulfilled their duties as early voters in the six state elections today.

Election Commission (EC) secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak said the voter turnout in Kedah was 96%, Kelantan (94%), Terengganu (96%), Penang (95%), Selangor (96%) and Negri Sembilan (94%).

For the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election, 1,286 early voters or 95% cast their ballots.

“The EC congratulates all returning officers and teams for carrying out their responsibilities well today,” he said.

“Our appreciation and thanks also to the police, armed forces, local authorities, Information Department, the media and all parties involved for the cooperation and support given to EC.”

The EC has set August 12 as the polling date for the state elections and the Kuala Terengganu by-election. – Bernama, August 8, 2023.
