Myanmar cleaner charged with outraging modesty of senior citizen

A MYANMAR national was charged at the Ampang magistrates’ court today with outraging the modesty of a senior citizen in front of a shop lot in Taman Muda last week.

Mohammad Jubair Musi Ullah, 23, who is a United Nations High Commission for Refugees card holder, claimed trial after the charge was read to him in Bahasa Melayu before magistrate Amalina Basirah Md Top.

Jubair, who works as a cleaner, is accused of assaulting the 71-year-old woman with the intention to outrage her modesty at 3.30pm on August 2.

He was charged under section 354 of the penal code, which carries up to 10 years’ jail, a fine, whipping, or any two punishments.

The accused also claimed trial to another charge of consuming ketamine in a toilet at the Ampang Jaya narcotics office, Hulu Langat, on the same day.

The charge, framed under section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides for a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or a maximum two years’ jail.

Deputy public prosecutor Norhidayah Abdullah Sani requested the court not to grant bail. The case will be mentioned on October 23 pending the engagement of a lawyer.

On August 4, a 26-second video clip went viral, showing a foreign man assaulting an elderly lady who was collecting boxes in front of a shop lot in Taman Muda, Ampang.

Ampang Jaya district police chief Mohd Azam Ismail, in a statement, said the man has two previous drug records and was apprehended the same day after passers-by intervened to help the victim. – Bernama, August 8, 2023.
