PENANG police detected betting activities on the results of the state polls on Saturday.
State police chief Khaw Kok Chin said so far no arrests have been made in relation to the case but police are closely monitoring the activities.
“Based on our monitoring, there are traces of betting activities we believe are carried out on a small scale. Investigations have so far found it does not involve any (gambling) syndicate, only small ones.
“Our probe found that they are betting on who will win and who will lose in the elections,” he told reporters after inspecting the early voting process at the state contingent police headquarters in George Town today.
A total of 6,451 policemen in the state are casting their ballots at 28 centres today.
Meanwhile, the number of hotspots detected in the state remained at two locations – Permatang Pasir in Permatang Pauh and Bayan Lepas in Balik Pulau.
“There were no cases in the two hotspots. There were minor incidents, but not to the point of threatening public order. Everything is under control,” he said. – Bernama, August 8, 2023.
