BERSATU supreme council member Muhammad Faiz Na’aman has quit the party after losing confidence in its leadership.
He said he had conveyed his decision to party president Muhyiddin Yassin in a letter today.
“I am disappointed as the party has stopped focusing on its founding spirit to the point it has admitted new members who bring with them the mentality and spirit of their old party,” he said in a statement.
Faiz’s decision to quit is believed to be rooted in the party’s selection of candidates for the ongoing state elections.
Last week, Faiz said Bersatu had announced a candidate line-up lacking in credibility and one that would cost it the chance of taking over Selangor.
He had described the Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) line-up as “embarrassing” and headed for defeat.
In his statement today, Faiz said nine Bersatu divisions in Selangor had protested the candidates nominated for the polls.
Among the issues he had disputed was the nomination of those who betrayed the party in the 15th general election, but the party did not take action against them.
He also said he was leaving Bersatu not because he had not been nominated as a candidate for the state polls.
In the November election, Faiz represented PN and contested against Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in Bagan Datuk. – August 7, 2023.
