POLICE are keeping an eye on members of the force who are living beyond their means, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said.
He said police are watching cops whose lifestyles do not match their positions and salaries, Mingguan Malaysia reported.
Razarudin said the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department is keeping track of police personnel with unexplained wealth.
“If an officer’s salary is RM8,000 but he has three houses and three cars, we will then investigate his expenses, credit cards and others to see if they are equivalent to his income,” he was quoted as saying.
He said police will investigation the personnel in question for corruption before taking action.
“Action is also taken against our officers and personnel found to patronising karaoke bars or are drunk in nightclubs.
“This is one of the standard operating procedures of the department to curb and block the opportunity for PDRM members to engage in unhealthy activities,” he said, referring to the force by its Malay acronym.
Police will also audit events or programmes organised on police premises, including in Bukit Aman, to verify their funding, said Razaruddin.
Between 2020 until June, the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department has penalised 447 members of the force, he said. – August 6, 2023.
