CARETAKER Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari says the accusation his Kedah counterpart has hurled against him at an election campaign rally in Jitra, Kedah, was slanderous and he is consulting his lawyers on the matter.

Amirudin, in a statement today, said he denied all the charges and accusations made by Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor at the Jelajah Mega PN Best “Sayangi Kedah Sejahtera” rally at Dataran Darul Aman on Wednesday.

Sanusi had accused Amirudin of colluding with a businessman to give out a project in Selangor.

Amirudin said Sanusi’s accusations were clearly slanderous and “are the ramblings of a man who is desperate for a distraction from all the scandalous REE (rare earth elements) charges levelled against him”.

Sanusi has been accused of colluding with a Chinese national to illegally mine REE in the state.

The Chinese national was reported to own the company Prospek Suria, which entered into a joint venture with Kedah Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) for REE exploration in Bukit Enggang Forest, Sik.

Amirudin said he had clarified at length the matter Sanusi had brought up at the rally in the state assembly last year and again earlier this year as well in parliament on March 1.

He said he will next week initiate a legal proceeding against Sanusi.

Sanusi is already facing sedition charges.

On July 18, he, however, claimed trial in two Selayang Sessions Courts to two counts of sedition under the Sedition Act 1948 over a political speech on July 11.

The first was for uttering a seditious statement that could incite disloyalty to the rulers at Taman Selayang Mutiara on July 11.

The second, in another court, of a similar charge at the same place and time of the first charge. – August 4, 2023.
