Pulai, Simpang Jeram by-elections on Sept 9

BY-elections for the Pulai parliamentary seat and Simpang Jeram state seat in Johor have been set for September 9, said Election Commission (EC) chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh.

He said nomination day is August 26 and early voting will be on September 5.

The two seats fell vacant with the death of Salahuddin Ayub on July 23.

Salahuddin, 61, who was Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, died at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar after surgery for a brain bleed.

In the last general election, Salahauddin retained Pulai with a 33,174-vote majority.

He gained 64,900 votes while Nur Jazlan Mohamed (Barisan Nasional) received 31,72 and Loh Kah Yong (Gerakan) got 20,677.

Salahuddn retained Simpang Jeram in the 2022 state elections with a 2,399-vote majority, beating PAS’ Zarul Salleh, BN’s Lokman Md Don, and Pejuang’s Mahaizal Mahmor with 8,749 votes. – August 3, 2023.
