A KENYAN in police detention died while receiving treatment at a health clinic at Beluru, Marudi in Sarawak yesterday.

Bukit Aman’s Department of Integrity and Standards Compliance director Azri Ahmad said the 50-year-old man was arrested for suspected offence of criminal intimidation under section 506 of the penal code.

“While he was being transported to the Marudi district police headquarters (in Marudi town), the detainee complained of chest pains and breathing difficulties.

“He was immediately rushed to the health clinic for treatment,” he said in a media statement.

However, a medical assistant pronounced the detainee dead at 10.30pm.

Azri said the body of the Kenyan would be brought to the Miri hospital for a post-mortem.

He added Bukit Aman Crime and Deaths in Custody Investigation Unit would be investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. – August 2, 2023.
