THE Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) is still considering the representations by Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to drop 47 charges of criminal breach of trust, corruption and money-laundering involving Yayasan Akalbudi funds, the Kuala Lumpur High Court heard today.
Deputy public prosecutor Dusuki Mokhtar told the court a team of prosecutors from the AGC is studying Zahid’s representations and hence the review is still ongoing.
“There’s no outcome as of now,” Dusuki said today.
Zahid is standing trial on a total of 47 charges – 12 for criminal breach of trust, eight for corruption and 27 for money-laundering – involving tens of millions of ringgit of foundation funds.
Zahid had earlier this year submitted a 200-page long representation letter to the AGC, seeking his charges to be dropped due to new evidence in the case.
On January 24, last year, Zahid was ordered to enter his defence on all 47 charges.
The Umno president had pleaded not guilty to all.
Since the AGC was still reviewing the representation, the defence called the sixth witness, Mohd Kamal Abdullah, who is Zahid’s special officer, to take the stand and continue with the trial. – August 1, 2023.
