THE Selangor government has scrapped the controversial Petaling Jaya Dispersal (PJD) Link project, caretaker menteri besar Amirudin Shari.

He said the expressway project did not meet the conditions of state government, in particular those in relation to the project’s social impact.

“Therefore, the state government does not plan to proceed with the (project) and has decided to reject the application of the developers of the PJD Link Expressway,” he said in a statement today.

The PJD Link is a 25.4km dual carriageway starting after the NKVE toll plaza on the SPRINT Highway in Damansara. It ends at the Bukit Jalil highway interchange.

The project was planned to ease traffic congestion and cater to future growth in the Klang Valley. The PJD Link developer signed a concession agreement with the government on April 5, 2022.

Petaling Jaya residents had objected to the project, calling instead for a comprehensive public transport plan.

They had urged the government to engage with the stakeholders on ways to ease traffic congestion in the Selangor city.

The Coalition Against PJD Link Highway head Sheikh Moqhtar Kadir said the authorities should look for a more feasible traffic dispersal scheme.

“Go back to the drawing board and look for an alternative scheme (for traffic dispersal).

“The present layout of Petaling Jaya doesn’t allow for an elevated highway as it is too dense, being a mature township,” he told The Malaysian Insight in a recent interview. – July 29, 2023.
