Pakatan, BN to focus on wooing fence sitters

THE Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) will work on strategies to woo fence sitters in the August 12 state elections, PH secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.

He said their supporters must are prepared to vote for candidates from the unity coalition, regardless of their political affiliation.

“This is to ensure that there is solid PH support for BN candidates, and vice versa,” Saifuddin, who is also home minister, told reporters at a ceramah in Kulim, Kedah last night.

In the elections in Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Kelantan, Terengganu and Negri Sembilan, PH is fielding 138 candidates and BN, 108.

Saifuddin said PH would not invest its resources in areas dominated by hardcore Perikatan Nasional (PN) supporters.

“We are not going to waste our time wooing them. There is no point,” he said.

“It is more sensible to win over the fence sitters and make sure there is vote transferability between PH and BN supporters.”

He said PH and BN would work on ensuring good working chemistry between their election machinery.

He also said PH and BN had adopted a content creation strategy where candidates would create their own content, which will be shared with the coalitions’ operation centres to be disseminated to the voters.

“The more content they develop, the more we can assist them in sharing it on social media to win over voters,” he added. – July 30, 2023.
