PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim has slammed his predecessor Muhyiddin Yassin for getting his priorities wrong during the latter’s tenure as prime minister.

Anwar said the Bersatu president was more eager to repair the official residence of the prime minister at Seri Perdana than work for the people.

“When he was the prime minister, his priorities were distorted. He spent on the repair works of Seri Perdana, which already looked like a palace.”

“(He spent) RM38 million. Between those who are hungry, jobless, persons with disability, and the poor, you (Muhyiddin) chose to spend RM38 million on your house,” the Pakatan Harapan chairman asked at the Arus Merah Kuning Mega Ceramah at Subang Bestari last night.

In 2021 several MPs scrutinised the multimillion-ringgit works and queried about it.

The then Special Functions Minister Abdul Latiff Ahmad said the RM38.5 million renovations at Seri Perdana were approved by the government and begun under Muhyiddin’s watch.

In his defence, Muhyiddin said the renovations were needed as the building required maintenance due to years of neglect.

He said the damage involved leaks, outdated lighting systems, and the physical condition of floors and roofs that have crumbled or worn out. – July 30, 2023.
