GABUNGAN Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Hajiji Mohd Noor has declared full support for the government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, saying that electing the administration’s candidates is the best chance for multiracial Malaysia to progress.
He advised Sabah people who will vote in the six state elections to choose the unity government to maintain the country’s political dynamic for a better future.
The Sabah chief minister urged voters to reject political parties that exploit racial sentiments and religious bigotry as campaign material, to the detriment of Malaysia’s plural society.
“Stability, one of the important factors for a country to progress, can only be achieved when the people are united and not blinded by racism or bigotry,” he said in a statement today.
Hajiji said Sabah and its people are a good example of unity and solidarity in diversity because they, regardless of race, religion and political ideology, have coexisted in harmony for so long, which is what the unity government is promoting at the national level.
“I call upon the people to support unity government candidates in the state elections,” he said.
Earlier today, Hajiji and Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg accompanied Anwar to visit the SMK Sungai Pusu nomination centre in Gombak, Selangor.
Both state leaders were making their first appearance with federal leaders in showing support for the ruling coalition’s candidates in the peninsula.
Early voting is on August 8 while polling day is August 12. – Bernama, July 29, 2023.
