UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he was not surprised its Sungai Buloh deputy division chief Harrison Hassan had left the party to contest as a Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate in the Selangor polls.
He said speculation was rife during the past month that Harrison would stand under the PN banner.
Last night PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin announced that Harrison would contest the Jeram seat in the Selangor polls on August 12.
“The announcement was no surprise. As per Umno constitution, this person’s (Harrison) has been stripped of his party membership,” he told reporters today in Putrajaya.
Zahid said he did not know if Harrison had quit Umno.
“But for obvious reasons, he is now no longer with the party,” he added.
Muhyiddin last night revealed PN will contest in all 56 seats in the six-state elections.
He said Bersatu will field 31 candidates, PAS (17) and Gerakan (8). – July 27, 2023.
