AFTER a one-month hiatus, Najib Razak’s 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial resumed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court today.

Najib’s counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah was cross-examining the prosecution’s 44th witness, former BSI Bank head of wealth management services Kevin Michael Swampillai.

The trial before presiding judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah was scheduled to start in the morning, but proceedings were postponed to the afternoon due to Shafee’s absence.

Before afternoon proceedings began, Shafee apologised to the court for his absence due to a headache.

Former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz arrived at the court at 1.54pm. She was set to give her statement as the 46th prosecution witness in the former prime minister’s trial.

Najib, 70, faces 21 charges of money laundering and four charges of abusing his position to obtain bribes amounting to RM2.3 billion belonging to 1MDB. – Bernama, July 26, 2023.
