DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng will stand in the Penang elections. 

Caretaker Deputy Chief Minister P. Ramasamy and four other executive councillors, however, have been dropped from contesting.  

Lim, who is the Bagan MP and Air Putih assemblyman since 2008, was among 19 names the party’s secretary-general Anthony Loke announced this evening.

Apart from Ramasamy, the other exco members dropped are Chong Eng, Phee Boon Poh, Soon Lip Chee, and Yeoh Soon Hin.

Former UKM academic Ramasamy made his debut in the Perai seat in 2008 and successfully defended the seat for two more terms. 

DAP is now fielding S Sundarajoo, a former chief operating officer of Ecoworld Development Sdn Bhd in Perai. 

Veteran Wanita DAP chief Chong Eng, a former Bukit Mertajam MP and serving exco member in the caretaker government, will make way for Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi in the Padang Lalang seat. 

Four-term Sungai Puyu assemblyman Phee Boon Poh’s seat will now be defended by his daughter, Syn Tze. 

Two other state executive councillors, Soon Lip Chee and Yeoh Soon Hin, will make way for a newcomer and a veteran leader respectively. 

Soon’s former Bagan Jermal seat will be contested by newbie Chee Yeeh Keen while former Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai will stand in Paya Terubong, which Yeoh had represented for three consecutive terms. 

Loke said first term assemblyman M Satees will be replaced by K Kumaran.

The DAP secretary general also announced that DAP will be fielding two candidates in the Kedah polls. 

He said the Derga and Kota Darul Aman incumbents – Tan Kok Yew and Teh Swee Leong – would be defending their seats.
