A PROMINENT Indian concert promoter and restaurateur has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

Sources from the anti-graft agency confirmed Abdul Malik Dasthigeer and an associate were called to the MACC headquarters last night and were detained by the Amla team early today. They have not been released.

The sources said the two were hauled in following reports that Malik had “amassed wealth which appeared to have been acquired within a short time”.

Investigation is currently centred on two jewellery stores the entrepreneur had opened within a short period of time.

Malik, popularly known as “Malik Stream”, is the founder and chairman of the Malik Streams Group, which has several subsidiary companies in the entertainment, real estate, gold, and food and beverage industries. – July 25, 2023.
