OF the RM1.4 billion allocation for the repair of dilapidated school buildings nationwide, RM650 million will be distributed from this week, said Education Director-General Pkharuddin Ghazali.
He said the amount will cover the cost of toilet repairs in schools under the Education Ministry (MOE) to provide comfort to students and motivate them to come to school.
“The Special Task Force on Agency Reform under the Chief Secretary to the Government will ensure the renovation of dilapidated schools is expedited.
“Each school will be getting RM70,000 for minor maintenance including toilet repairs … because that, too, was among the focuses of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“If the toilets are well-maintained, children will look forward to going to school,” he told reporters after officiating the National Seminar on Educational Leadership Towards Malaysia Madani in Nilai today.
Yesterday, Anwar announced an additional allocation of RM1.4 billion for repairs to dilapidated MOE schools this year. – Bernama, July 24, 2023.
