CARETAKER Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari will lead the Pakatan Harapan (PH) charge in Selangor with the incumbent Sungai Tua assemblyman defending his seat, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said
He said Amirudin will remain the PH choice for the position of menteri besar.
In announcing the candidate list, Anwar said Negri Sembilan incumbent Aminuddin Harun and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow will remain the PH choice for the positions, in those states.
He said the decision was taken after considering the performance of the leaders and their popularity with the people.
“Amirudin is among the more successful menteri besar in the country.
“PKR also welcomes DAP’s decision for Chow to be appointed as chief minister because of his performance,” Anwar said.
He said PKR’s strength does not solely lie with him and the party’s top leadership but also the strength of state leadership.
Anwar tonight unveiled the names of 20 candidates who will contest under PKR colours.
Rapper Altimet, whose real name is Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad, will be fielded as the candidate for Lembah Jaya.
However, three-term Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Elizabeth Wong has been dropped as a candidate and will be replaced by Phua Pei Lei.
Exco member Hee Loy Sian, the assemblyman for Kajang, has been dropped, with PKR central leadership council member David Cheong replacing him.
Bukit Melawati assemblyman Juwairiya Zulkifli has been moved to the Hulu Kelang seat. Incumbent Saari Sungib has retired from politics.
Juwairiya’s Bukit Melawati seat will be contested by Hulu Selangor PKR division chief Thiban Subramaniam.
Najwan Halimi, who courted controversy recently over a racial remark, was retained as the candidate for Kota Anggerik.
Nomination day for the six state polls is slated to take place on July 29 and polling is on August 12. – July 22, 2023.
