SELANGOR police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the Good Vibes Festival organiser has been contacted by police to provide more detail about the controversial performance by UK band The 1975 on the first night.  

“There is no official investigation at this point as no police reports have been lodged yet, but we are making some enquiries.”  

“The police will be calling in the concert’s organiser later this afternoon. KLIA police will be handling it,” Free Malaysia Today reported the Selangor police chief as saying.

Earlier on, the organiser of Good Vibes Festival said the event would go on despite the abrupt stop to British band The 1975’s performance last night.   

In a statement, the festival organiser said those who had bought single-day passes for Friday would be able to watch performances today and tomorrow.  

“To those who attended on Friday, July 21, 2023, we understand your disappointment.  

“If you have a Friday single-day festival wristband, you will now be able to attend the festival on either Saturday or Sunday.  

“Good Vibes Festival has always been dedicated to providing enjoyable music experiences, and we sincerely appreciate your continued support.  

“We regret that The 1975’s performance had to be cut short due to non-compliance with local performance guidelines,” the statement read.  

The three-day music festival, which kicked off yesterday and would go on until July 23 was set to showcase more than 40 acts, international as well as local.  

The performance by The 1975 came under fire after its frontman Matt Healy uttered profanities insulting the government.  

The band’s frontman, Matt Healy, was seen performing while holding a bottle of wine and a lit cigarette, and spitting on stage during their set last night.  

He also gave a brief speech that included profanities directed at the government.  

He kissed his male guitarist after making the speech and continued performing the last two songs of the night.  

Responding to complaints, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said he would contact the authorities to get a full report of the incident.  

“This is a very disrespectful act. I have summoned the organiser to explain today and will contact the authorities to get a full report,” he tweeted. – July 22, 2023.
