PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim derided caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over his statements on the Selangor royal institution, the New Straits Times reports.
Anwar reportedly said Sanusi was looking for trouble and out to provoke the royal court.
Anwar, during the “Kita Hulu Kelang” programme in Keramat last night, also said he was not involved in the sedition charges brought against Sanusi.
“People told me I am cruel for his (Sanusi) charges in court, but I am not the one who made the report.
“It was done by the members of Dewan Diraja Selangor following the consent given by the Selangor ruler,” he was quoted as saying.
He added that the matter was all under the jurisdiction of the police, prosecutors as well as the attorney-general, and that he was “not involved in any of the processes”.
On Tuesday, Sanusi claimed trial to two charges of sedition over his talks in Selayang.
In the first charge, he was accused of making a seditious comment regarding the appointment of the Selangor menteri besar.
Sanusi, 48, allegedly incited discontent or disaffection among the subjects of the ruler by making the remarks.
In a separate court before judge Osman Affendi Mohd Shalleh, Sanusi, who is Perikatan Nasional election director, also denied making seditious remarks in relation to the king.
Sanusi was reported to have questioned if the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had indeed decreed that a unity government be formed after the November general election.
Both offences were allegedly committed at the same ceramah in Simpang 4, Taman Selayang Mutiara-Kg Bendahara, Gombak, at 11pm on July 11.
Anwar also questioned the Selangor PAS commissioner who had an audience with the Selangor sultan.
“Why did the commissioner have an audience with the sultan? Why did he also apologise if such remarks weren’t made in the first place?
“Sanusi’s eyes are bigger when looking at other states, instead of his own.
“The monarchy is sovereign and the royal institutions are the umbrella of the country, (hence) you are merely looking for trouble (when making the remarks),” he said. – July 22, 2023.
