TWO footballers and two academics are among Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidates in the state polls, the coalition’s election director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said.

Sanusi said these candidates would be joining ustaz (religious teachers) and ulama (religious scholars) to represent PN in the polls.

“On August 12, vote for PN. We will introduce some of our new players ahead of the new season.

“In the second transfer window, two professors will represent us. We already have two footballers, many ustaz and ulama, and one ‘panglima’ to lead the charge,” Sanusi was quoted as saying in a New Straits Times report.

Kedah PN is slated to announce its line up next Wednesday after Sanusi’s arrest had disrupted its plan to unveil its line-up this week.

The Kedah legislative assembly has 36 seats. In the last assembly PN held 20 seats, with the rest held by the opposition.

Speculation was rife recently that former Kedah football team captain Baddrol Bakhtiar would be fielded as a PN candidate in the state following his recent decision to leave Sabah Football Club.

Other states that will go to the polls on August 12 are Penang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan and Terengganu. – July 21, 2023.
