A SUDANESE woman, who was a marketing officer at the Malaysian embassy in Sudan, has claimed that she was wrongfully sacked last October.
She now wants the Malaysian government, through its Foreign Ministry, to pay her US$1,600 (RM7,270) in compensation for the wrongful dismissal.
FreeMalaysiaToday reported that Maye Mahgoub Moustafa Ahmed is claiming that she had not received any response from Wisma Putra about her compensation claim.
The news portal also said a Wisma Putra officer had said they would look into Maye’s claim.
According to the report, Maye, 43, had been in touch regularly with Wisma Putra for an update without success.
Her last email to the ministry was sent on July 5.
“They initially told me they are waiting for approval, and then stopped answering my subsequent calls. Why does an approval need nearly a year? This is illogical and unacceptable,” she was quoted as saying in FMT.
Maye said she was hired as a marketing officer in May last year but was sacked in October for allegedly failing to declare that she had previously been fired by the Brazilian embassy.
She said she had informed interviewers that she had worked at the Brazilian embassy in Sudan but had not been asked why she left.
Maye is unable to lodge a legal action against the Malaysian embassy as her country is currently in a state of war.
She is now a refugee in Egypt. – July 21, 2023.
