CARETAKER Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has refuted police claims he could not be reached by the cops.
Sanusi said he had been in contact with the police since Monday night and had clearly told the cops he did not want to be arrested.
“I want to correct what the Inspector-General of Police said yesterday, with respect to him I was in communication with Bukit Aman and made it clear I did not want to be arrested.
“I didn’t want them to arrest me because I knew there was a conspiracy to do so, as it would give the narrative that I had committed an offence.
“I wanted to avoid this and told the cops that I will attend court,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian during a press conference today in Alor Star.
Sanusi said he had seen the court notice on Berita Harian online.
He added that he had evidence proving his communication with the police: a screenshot of the WhatsApp conversation he had with them.
“I said I could go to any police station if that is what they wanted. But then they said they wanted to arrest me, so I told them I won’t be going to the station.
“I gave a 100% commitment that I will be at the Selayang court at 9am. No need to arrest me, I won’t run anywhere as I am the menteri besar. But they insisted I come; I said never mind, I want to rest and sleep,” he was quoted as saying.
Yesterday, the PAS election director claimed trial to two charges of sedition.
He was accused of making a seditious comment regarding the appointment of the Selangor menteri besar.
He allegedly incited discontent or disaffection among the subjects of the Selangor ruler by making the remarks.
In a separate court before judge Osman Affendi Mohd Shalleh, Sanusi also denied making seditious remarks in relation to the king.
Sanusi was reported to have questioned if the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had indeed decreed that a unity government be formed after the November general election.
Both offences were allegedly committed at the same ceramah in Simpang 4, Taman Selayang Mutiara-Kampung Bendahara, Gombak, at 11pm, on July 11. – July 19, 2023.
