THE Election Commission (EC) is now in a meeting to set the dates for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election.

The meeting, chaired by EC chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh, started at 10am and is also attended by his deputy Dr Azmi Sharom and secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak.

Other EC members present are Dr Lee Bee Phang, Zoey Randhawa, Dr Mohd Faisal Syam Abdol Hazis and Nik Ali Mat Yunus.

The meeting was held after the EC received the Election Court’s report on its decision to nullify the results of the 15th general election for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat.

The Terengganu Election Court on June 27 nullified the victory of PAS’ Ahmad Amzad Hashim in Kuala Terengganu in the November polls last year, after finding that the petitioner, Mohd Zubir Embong of Barisan Nasional, had succeeded in proving corruption had taken place with the intent to influence voters in the election.

On July 8, PAS decided it would not appeal against the court’s decision. – Bernama, July 18, 2023.
