THE Selangor Royal Palace has said the matter of caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor allegedly insulting the monarchy has not been resolved, even if Sanusi has apologised.

His Majesty’s office, in a statement posted on Facebook, said Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah today met with Selangor PAS Commissioner Ahmad Yunus Hairi and Selangor Police Chief Hussein Omar Khan at Istana Bukit Kayangan, Shah Alam.

“This separate meeting was to discuss the statement issued by Sanusi in one of his talks in Selangor recently that was considered insulting to the Selangor Royal Institution,” the royal office said in a Facebook post.

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said Sanusi’s apology would not result in the police stopping investigation of the issue.

“Our investigation is still ongoing (even though Sanusi has apologised),” he was quoted as saying in Berita Harian.

Razarudin said the police had received 57 police reports against Sanusi as of yesterday morning.

He added that the investigation papers on Sanusi, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, and DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng will be handed over to the Attorney-General’s Chambers as soon as possible.

The trio are being investigated for playing up race, religion, and royalty (3R) issues.

On Saturday, Sanusi, who is also the Perikatan Nasional election director, said he had sent a letter to the Selangor ruler asking for forgiveness and apologising for the allegedly insulting statement made at a recent ceramah.

He also gave his statement to the police at Bukit Aman on Saturday.

He, however, said his speech was deliberately twisted to create misunderstanding of his intended message.

Following that, Legal and Institutional Reform Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said said Sanusi’s apology did not mean he would be spared a police investigation and legal action. – July 17, 2023.
