BERSATU Supreme Council member Mohamed Azmin Ali has told his one-time protege, Amirudin Shari of PKR, not to be arrogant just because he won the contest between them in last year’s general election.

In the November polls, the Selangor menteri besar defeated Azmin for the Gombak parliamentary seat.

Azmin said that defeat did not mean he would also lose in the August 12 state elections.

“I lost in Gombak. My friend Amirudin has arrogantly said he toppled me in Gombak.

“Never mind, I am content with my loss in Gombak. Hopefully, this is an opportunity for me to reflect, but I want to remind Amirudin that a defeat in one election does not mean we will lose in the next,” Malaysiakini quoted Azmin as saying at an event in Taman Samudera, Selangor, last night.

In the 2018 general election, Azmin won the Gombak seat with a 48,721-vote majority for the third term before his defeat last year.

Amirudin, who is also Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairman, won the Gombak seat with an impressive majority of 12,729 votes in a five-cornered fight.

Azmin, who is Selangor Perikatan Nasional chairman, is the incumbent Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman.

However, there is talk that he will be contesting in Hulu Kelang in the state polls.

Hulu Kelang was the first seat that Azmin won 24 years ago in the 1999 general election. – July 16, 2023.
