CARETAKER Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s apology would not result in the police stopping their investigation on his alleged insult of the sultan of Selangor, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said today.
“Our investigation is still ongoing (even though Sanusi has apologised),” he was quoted as saying in Berita Harian today.
Razarudin said the police had received 57 police reports against Sanusi as of yesterday morning.
He added the investigation papers on Sanusi, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng will be handed over to the Attorney-General’s Chambers as soon as possible.
The trio are being investigated for raising race, religion and royalty (3R) issues.
Yesterday, Sanusi, who is also the Perikatan Nasional (PN) election director, said he had sent a letter to the Selangor ruler, asking for forgiveness and apologising for his statement made at a recent ceramah.
He also gave his statement to the police at Bukit Aman yesterday.
However, he claimed his speech was deliberately twisted to create a wrong understanding of his intended message.
Following that, Law and Institutional Reform Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said said Sanusi’s apology did not mean he will be spared from police investigation and legal action. – July 16, 2023.
