CARETAKER Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor must be investigated for claiming non-Muslims make up the majority of people arrested for giving and receiving bribes, DAP leader P. Ramasamy said.

The caretaker Penang deputy chief minister ll said Sanusi, who is also Perikatan Nasional elections director, was making unsubstantiated claims and challenged him to back it up with facts.

“There seems to be no end to the nonsense from Sanusi. He refuses to see corruption afflicting all sections of society, immaterial of ethnicity or religion.

“Can Sanusi back up his claim or provide statistics about the non-Malays being the most corrupt?

“A mere political or populist statement without the corresponding facts renders it shallow and racist,” the DAP leaders said in a statement today.

Ramasamy said Sanusi’s remark was aimed at boosting his popularity before the state elections at the expense of the non-Malays.

“It is highly irresponsible for a state leader to make such an allegation.

“There is a clear directive from  police that forbids incitement against race, religion and royalty.

“Police have sufficient grounds to investigate Sanusi for casting aspersions on non-Malays,” he added.

Yesterday Sanusi was reported as saying it was a fact that non-Muslims were the ones who got arrested the most for giving and receiving bribes.

He also blamed DAP for starting to play up the narrative that Malay leaders were involved in bribery and corruption.

Following this, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said Sanusi must provide proof for his claim, adding that the PAS election director’s allegation was baseless and irresponsible. – July 13, 2023.
