Ex-national footballer denies trespassing on woman’s hotel room


A FORMER national football team captain was charged in the Petaling Jaya magistrates’ court today with trespassing on a hotel room of a woman.

Ahmad Shahrul Azhar Sofian, 49, claimed trial after the charge was read out before magistrate Zhafran Rahim Hamzah.

The former Perak FA player was charged with trespassing on the 36-year-old woman’s room at a hotel in Kelana Jaya at 6pm last June 21.

The charge, under section 448 of the penal code carries a maximum three years’ jail, a fine of up to RM5,000 or both.

He was allowed bail of RM2,000 with one surety and also ordered not to intimidate witnesses in the case.

The court set September 18 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Maryam Jamilah Md Kamal prosecuted, while lawyer Suraj Singh represented the accused. – Bernama, July 10, 2023.
