PERIKATAN Nasional is hoping to work with Umno even though the Malay party has partnered with Pakatan Harapan.
PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad said this at the launch of the PN election machinery for Negri Sembilan in Sikamat last night.
He added that his coalition’s quarrel is only with PH.
“Umno is not dangerous. Our enemy is PH, not Umno,” he was reported as saying by The Vibes today.
“We are confident of bringing Umno into the fold in post-election negotiations.
“Umno is on the verge of ruin, no thanks to it having Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as president,” he added.
After the 2018 general election, Umno and PAS formed Muakafat Nasional to win Malay support and topple the PH government.
The two parties had then joined Bersatu in forming a new government in February 2020.
PAS and Bersatu went on to establish Perikatan National while Umno, following infighting with Bersatu, left the pact as well as Muafakat Nasional.
After the November general election, Umno joined hands with PH to form the federal government.
The two coalitions are set to face off again in the August 12 state polls. – July 10, 2023.
