THE Transport Ministry will request an allocation of RM10 million next year to expand its MyLesen B2 programme to allow more people from the B40 group to get motorcycle licences, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

He said the allocation will benefit more than 30,000 people, compared with only 9,000 this year.

“We plan to apply for a bigger allocation next year, which is double or triple (this year’s allocation of RM2.7 million), possibly RM10 million.

“This initiative coincides with the government’s efforts to educate the public on the awareness of compliance with road regulations and the culture of road safety among youth,” he told reporters after attending handover of driving licences under the Penang MyLesen B2 programme in Balik Pulau today.

Also in attendance at the Balik Pulau Driver Training Centre ceremony was caretaker chief minister Chow Kon Yeow.

At the ceremony, 293 people from 12 driving schools in the Barat Daya district received their motorcycle licences.

Loke said MyLesen B2 is an effort by the unity government to assist the B40 group to improve their socio-economic status and household income via opportunities in the gig economy sector.

“The effort is also driven by the government’s aim to intensify road safety advocacy and enforcement activities to lower accident rates, in line with the United Nations’ resolution to cut road traffic deaths and injuries by 50% by 2030,” he said. – Bernama, July 8, 2023.
