PKR will contest seven seats in the state elections in Kelantan.

State leadership council deputy chairman Syed Mohd Alidustur Syed Mohd Zain said the seven are Panchor, Chetok, Mengkebang, Pasir Pekan, Kota Lama, Pasir Tumboh and Limbongan.

“Kelantan PKR has been instructed to open the main operations room in the seven constituencies we will contest,” he told reporters after the launch of the party’s election machinery and main operations room for Panchor last night.

Syed Mohd Alidustur, who also heads PKR’s Pengkalan Chepa division, said as part of the unity government, Kelantan PKR will support Amanah and Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates contesting in the elections.

“The Kelantan PKR main operations room is only open in the constituencies we are contesting. In the areas where there is no PKR candidate, we will fully support the parties in the unity government contesting them,” he said.

Kelantan Umno information chief Zawawi Othman previously reported that BN would contest 31 seats while Pakatan Harapan, which includes PKR and Amanah, will contest 14 other seats. The Kelantan assembly has 45 seats.

Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan will go to the polls on August 12, with nomination day set on July 29 and early voting on August 8. – Bernama, July 8, 2023.
