THE government will review the salary of civil servants nationwide and the matter will be discussed in the cabinet next week, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.
He said the decision to review the salary scheme because adjustments had not been made for quite a long time. The last review took place in 2013.
“We will table (the review proposal) to the cabinet for approval. The Public Service director-general (Zulkapli Mohamed) and chief secretary to the government (Mohd Zuki Ali) have recommended the setting up of a review team and I agreed.
“In general, the wages and salaries of civil servants are still very low and it is reasonable for the government to consider this matter even though we are bound by financial constraints. I believe we can find a way to make some changes so that we approve it.”
Anwar said this after delivering his message to Negri Sembilan civil servants in Seremban today.
The prime minister also said the government has allocated an additional RM200 million to repair and maintain Malaysian Armed Forces living quarters nationwide.
“We have seen the deplorable condition of the military housing, so I have approved immediate funding for repair, and tomorrow I will announce additional allocations for police housing as well,” he said.
At the tabling of Budget 2023 in February, the government announced an allocation of more than RM500 million for the maintenance of armed forces housing and repair of staff quarters and institutions under the Home Ministry, including the Royal Malaysia Police. – Bernama, July 7, 2023.
