Dr Mahathir, DAP love affair won’t last, says MCA

DR Mahathir Mohamad and DAP will eventually fight each other even if they win 14th general election, a top MCA leader warned the Chinese.

MCA vice-president Chew Mei Fun said her party remained the community’s best bet despite it losing more seats to DAP and its ally PKR, in the past two general elections.

The former senator and deputy women, family and community development minister said the four-party Pakatan Harapan coalition is ripe for future in-fighting.

PH comprises DAP, PKR, Amanah and Bersatu. Its prime minister designate is Dr Mahathir, a former Umno president who left the Malay party after falling out with current president and Prime Minister Najib Razak.

“The potential for a power struggle between Dr Mahathir and Anwar, and between Mahathir and Lim Kit Siang, I don’t think (PH) can just overlook it, if they ever win Putrajaya,” said the former Petaling Jaya Utara MP.

“This is why I say, when you vote for Pakatan Harapan, you are voting for an uncertain future,” she said.

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has been named PH’s prime minister-in-waiting.

Dr Mahathir has said he would serve as interim prime minister and that PH would seek a royal pardon for Anwar so that he can be installed as prime minister.

Anwar is set to be released in June after serving two-thirds of his sentence for sodomy.

Chew said Dr Mahathir’s focus on Najib was telling and a signal that voters could not fully trust the former’s promises.

“From day one until today, you only saw they want to remove Najib. Can you confirm he (Dr Mahathir) won’t go back (to Umno) after they remove Najib? He might re-join Umno, despite his promise.”

She said Dr Mahathir only has one aim in mind.

“It is a struggle by Dr Mahathir to fight for his son (Mukhriz) to become prime minister. It started within Umno and expanded from there.”

Flip-flopping DAP

Chew is a front-runner nominee to contest the parliamentary seat of Raub, Pahang, which MCA lost to DAP in the 13th general election.

This time, she is confident that Chinese voters would not be taken in by promises by PH leaders, particularly DAP.

From hudud (Islamic Penal Code) to Mahathirism, DAP has a track record of going against its stances, said Chew.

“The Chinese voters see very clearly what the DAP is doing is totally different what they’ve promised.

“Before 2013, they told everybody that they would not support race-based parties, saying they are going multiracial, but now they’re working with race-based party (Bersatu).

“They condemned Dr Mahathir for all his wrongdoings, but now Dr Mahathir is the one who will help them. It seems like whatever Dr Mahathir did in the past, didn’t happen.

“They said ‘no’ to hudud, but they worked with PAS. They told you they wanted Dr Mahathir arrested, but now they’re working with him.

“This is why when you support DAP or Pakatan, you don’t know what the final outcome will be.” – March 26, 2018.

  • The love affair is already over. The DAP have become totally subservient to Mahathir’s despotic mentality. The DAP never had much going for it anyway, then it sold out the Chinese of KK and SB to protect the weak insecurities of the Lims. Then they sold out the whole party simply to ensure the jobs of those same Lims. The Chinese supporters of the DAP voted to support their delusions about themselves only to find they had elected a government which showed their delusions for what they really are...hot air

  • My brother asked if a Unity govt in Putrajaya was possible as there was too much bickering now. Politics is the art of the possible. If Dr.M were to rejoin UMNO it would be a good thing. As the new PM he could forge a unity govt with Pakatan to help resolve outstanding or pressing issues in Malaysia, which requires his kind experience. PM Najib could also think likewise if he won GE14, but I guess the effort would be much too great & he would be more comfortable on his own..

  • Say all you want, MCA is a complete letdown to the rakyat n the Chinese community. There are so many issues in the country committed by the Umno govt where you do not have a voice or you were more concern about your position n self interest than for the rakyat. For instance, why have you not make a strong stand about 1MDB? How about Altantuya's case? It was obvious that there was motive to the killing. And now th eanti-fake news law...you will be voting for it....n the delineation..which was so unfair n unjust. You are just a puppet for Umno to use you so that they can retain power. You betray teh rakyat n your own race
