DAP fanning Islamophobia with ‘green wave’ narrative, says Hadi

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has accused DAP and all those who describe the Islamist party’s electoral gains in the 15th general election as a “green wave” of fanning Islamophobia.

“It’s clear their objective is to go against the teachings of Islam,” which he described as the basis and goal of PAS’ struggle.

The Marang MP, in a lengthy Facebook statement, said his party’s successes are viewed negatively because of its Islamic principles.

“The success of PAS is considered negative because of Islam. Our Islamic administrations in several states have shown that our party has the best integrity.

“Is that the reason why we are deemed as dangerous?” he asked.

He said in contrast, the political parties that formed the federal government “deliberately” turned a blind eye against all wrongdoing, corruption, leakage, cheating and so on, among themselves, “so that they can conspire” with those who are corrupt to form a government which they call a unity government.

Hadi said this anti-Islam mentality was akin to that of the colonial masters when they ruled the country.

The term “green wave” came about after last November’s parliamentary election where PAS, as a member of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, made unprecedented gains.

They were mostly successful in the conservative Malay Muslim-dominated northern states of the peninsula.

The green is in reference to the dominant colour of the party’s flag.

According to Malaysiakini, the “green wave” term was not new.

“PAS has been using it in a low-key manner since 2018. Several PAS leaders such as its Kedah chief Sanusi Md Noor have also embraced the term,” the portal reported. – June 29, 2023.
