CARETAKER Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor should work on eradicating poverty and unemployment in the state instead of seeking cheap publicity by attacking Penang, Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub said.

Salahuddin, who is also the Johor Pakatan Harapan chairman, said Sanusi’s antics were not benefitting Kedah residents and were merely political stunts.

“The issue of Penang and Kedah is not a national issue. What is being said by Sanusi is not helping the poor in Kedah.

“Those without work are not going to benefit from his statements.

“The issue of the environment is not going to settle as well as the rare earth illegal mining. He should work on how to lift the economy of Kedah,” said Salahuddin.

Recently, Sanusi, a Kedah PAS assemblyman, asserted that Penang belonged to Kedah.

Sanusi had allegedly said the two states did not have a border and had asked for the constitution to be amended.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim responded by saying leaders need to be well-read so they can use their knowledge to help the people.

A week ago, police confirmed they will record Sanusi’s statement as part of their investigations under section 505(b) of the penal code for making statements that lead to public alarm and distress, and section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities or network service.

Sanusi, who is also the PAS election director, denied wanting the Federal Constitution to be amended to support his assertion.

He said his statement merely called for Penang to pay Kedah a RM100 million “lease payment”.
