MUDA has not made the hasty decision of not cooperating with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s unity government as declared by DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang, party president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said.
Syed Saddiq said his party have been unable to secure a meeting with Anwar Ibrahim and other Pakatan Harapan leaders.
He said Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail did not respond to three letters the party had sent asking for a meeting.
“Not only were we left hanging but we also got ridiculed when the PH secretary-general responded by saying that he had no time to read our letters,” Syed Saddiq said in a statement today,
“This was despite the fact that his office had agreed to a date beforehand but cancelled at the last minute.”
Syed Saddiq was responding to Lim who said that Muda should not be overhasty in deciding not to work with Anwar’s unity government in six state elections.
On Monday, Syed Saddiq said Muda will stand under its own banner in the state polls.
“Muda has been having discussions on the six state elections. Muda has made a decision based on the consensus that it will contest on its own.” Syed Saddiq told a press conference.
Syed Saddiq said unlike other parties in the government, his party was not demanding lucrative positions in government-linked companies.
“We weren’t asking for contracts. We merely wanted a meeting so that we could propose a way forward to build a truly multi-racial, multi-religious, moderate and reform-centred Malaysia.
“You want reforms, Tan Sri (Lim)? Muda wants them too,” he said. – June 28, 2023.
