A 38-YEAR-OLD man was charged with attempted murder after he tried to mow down four policemen manning a roadblock on the Pan-Borneo Highway with a stolen four-wheel-drive vehicle.

Yeo Chee Ann was also slapped with a secondary charge of obstructing the policemen from discharging their duties by failing to stop.

He did not record a plea at a magistrate’s court in Mukah yesterday.

None of the policemen were hurt in the incident, which occurred at 3.40am on June 4 at Km82 of the highway in Selangau.

They fired several shots at the fleeing vehicle, hitting Yeo who was arrested when he sought treatment at the Betong hospital 235km away.

Mukah police chief Muhamad Rizal Alias had said the shooting was “in self-defence”.

Yeo is faces 20 years in jail if convicted. – June 27, 2023.
